History
On October 28, 1892, Charles-Émile Reynaud through his invention Théâtre Optique presented his first production known as “Pantomimes Lumineuses.” Pantomimes Lumineuses was a series of animated films that included Pauvre Pierrot and Autour d’une cabine. Over 12,800 shows to more than 500,000 visitors were presented by Reynaud from 28 October 1892 to March 1900 at the Grévin Museum, Paris. This marked the first-ever public appearance of animation on screen. To commemorate this historic event, the International Animated Film Association decided to observe October 28 as International Animation Day (IAD). Apart from presenting the first projected animated films, Charles is also credited with the invention of the animation device praxinoscope.
