Who was Subhas Chandra Bose?
Subhas Chandra Bose was born in Cuttack (now in Odisha) to Prabhavati Bose Dutt and Janakinath Bose.
His father Jankinath was a successful lawyer and government pleader and Bose was his ninth child and sixth son.
Subhas Bose was an academically brilliant child and was sent to England on his father’s urge to take the Indian Civil Service examination.
He cleared the first exam with distinction but as he was more leaning to join the nationalist movement led by Mahatma Gandhi, he returned and joined the Indian National Congress in the year 1921.
By the year 1938, Bose became the president of the Indian National Congress but due to continuous conflict arsing between him and Mohandas Gandhi, he resigned from his post and was eventually thrown out of the party.
Subhas Bose got arrested in 1940 by the Bengal government over a small protest. He was placed under a strict police watch but he somehow managed to escape from there around six months later.
He fled to Nazi Germany in 1941 where he got married and had a daughter. From there he went to Japan where he formed an Indian National Army from the Indian Prisoners of Wars (POWs) of the British Indian army who were captured by the Japanese in the Battle of Singapore.
This way, the first Indian National Army was formed in the year 1942.
Netaji died from the injuries that incurred to him due to third-degree burns caused when his plane crashed somewhere in Taiwan.
However, many people refused to believe that he died in a plane crash and numerous conspiracy theories were created regarding his death (which still many people believes in). Netaji died on 18 August 1945.
