Tricks to use Phone pay, Google Pay and Paytm without internet (UPI without Internet)

Digital transactions have become an integral part of human lives. We don’t need to carry money with us anymore, relieving us of the tension of losing the money or getting robbed.

We can make transactions via several online payments apps like Phone Pay, Google Pay, and Paytm which are widely used and can be trusted with our money.

But have you thought about what would you do if you need to pay someone but you don’t have internet connectivity? Or has your data pack been exhausted?

To avoid such predicament situations, you should know beforehand what needs to be done now. In this article, we are going to tell how you can complete payments using Phone pay, Google Pay, and Paytm without access to an internet connection, i.e, in offline mode.

As we all know, transaction apps need a healthy internet connection to make money transfer easily like Google Pay needs the internet to download the periodically generated token keys. This can be overcome by using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has made it possible to make money transfer from non-smartphone and internet less conditions. This is done by dialing *99# , which uses Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) to bring several banks across the country get directly connected to Telecom Service Provider (TSPs- like Google Pay).

But to avail of this service, you need to have your number pre-registered with your bank account. Then download the BHIM app and register yourself with all your valid credentials which are as per your bank details. Don’t forget to use the same phone number registered in the bank to perform transactions. Make sure that you are connected with UPI.

Now follow the below steps to make offline transactions possible:

UPI without internet

1)   In your phone, dial *99# and then press the call button and wait for a few seconds. You will see a numbered menu popping up with several options to select from:

  • Send Money
  • Receive Money
  • Check balance
  • My profile
  • Pending Requests
  • Transactions
  • UPI Pin

2)      Select if you want to send or receive money and accordingly reply with the corresponding number to the option.

3)      Now you will be asked to complete your transactions with your bank account number and IFSC code, or with UPI ID, or with your registered phone number.

4)   If you choose a Bank account, then you need to know the Receipt’s/Sender’s account number and IFSC code; For UPI transactions, you need to have the UPI ID; and for phone number transactions you need to know the phone number of the other party.

5)      After that you will be asked to enter the amount you need to transfer.

6)      This is the most validating step where you will be asked to enter your UPI PIN and then click on “proceed”.

After this, you will receive a confirmation regarding the completion of your transaction on your phone.

However availing of this service is not entirely free, you need to pay a transaction fee of ₹0.5.

So this is how you can complete your money transactions without ever needing to connect to an internet connection.
