History

In its light, they decided to dedicate a day completely towards the cause. The United Nations in its resolution A/RES/73/296 adopted on 28 May 2019 designated that 22 August will be observed as the International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief.

It is celebrated one day after International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism which falls on 21 August.
