Tom Hanks (full name Thomas Jeffrey Hanks) was born on July 9, 1956 in Concord, California to Janet Marylyn and Amos Hanks. His mother was a hospital worker and his father was an itinerant cook. Tom is also a distant cousin of President Abraham Lincoln and children’s host Fred Rogers. After his parents got divorced in 1960, Tom went to live with his father with two elder siblings while the youngest one moved with their mother.
In 1978 Hanks married American actress Samantha Lewes and together they had one son, (actor Colin Hanks) and one daughter, Elizabeth. The couple got divorced in 1987. In 1981, Hanks met his future-wife and actress Rita Wilson on the set of TV comedy Bosom Buddies. They worked together again in Volunteers (1985) and fell in love at the set of the movie itself.
