Rajinikanth was born in a modest home in the southern Indian state of Mysore (present-day Karnataka) on 12 December 1949. His father, Ramoji Rao Gaekwad, was a Police Constable. He spent his childhood years with his family speaking Marathi at home and Kannada outside.
