Travis Tritt was born on February 9, 1963, in Marietta, Georgia, to James and Gwen Tritt. His parents divorced when he was a kid and later remarried when Travis turned 18. After performing in the church’s Sunday school choir, Tritt became interested in singing and started learning guitar on his own. Tritt started working in an air conditioning company while playing in clubs but later gave up the air conditioning job to focus solely on his music career.

In 1982, Tritt married his high school sweetheart, Karen Ryon but they got divorced two years later. He then married Jodi Barnett, who was 12 years older than him but divorced her shortly after signing with Warner Bros. in 1989. Travis again got married to Theresa Nelson in 1997 and the couple has one daughter and two sons.

Professional Career of Travis Tritt

Music career

Tritt started recording demos with the help of Warner Bros. Records executive Danny Davenport who also helped him set up a demo album for the label company. Once the demo album was complete, Davenport sent it to Warner Bros. Impressed by the album, Warner Bros. signed Tritt in 1987 and asked him to produce six songs to be released as singles. Under the contract, it was mentioned that Tritt will only be signed for full albums if at least one of the six singles become a hit. Not only these songs became major hits but also earned Tritt the Top New Male Artist award win from Billboard. In 1991, Tritt released his second album which went on to become his best-selling album with all of its singles reaching the top five on the country music charts.

In 1999 Tritt left Warner Bros. Records and signed with Columbia Records. His first album with Columbia Records was also a hit and he subsequently released other albums with them before leaving the record in 2005. He then signed with the independent Category 5 Records in 2006 but the company shut down in 2007 over some allegations against the label’s chief executive officer.

In 1994 he also made a special appearance in the movie The Cowboy Way.
