Carrey was born on January 17, 1962, in Ontario, Canada, to Kathleen and Percy Carrey. His mother was a homemaker and his father was an accountant and a musician. At one point of time, his family struggled financially and Jim and his brother even worked as janitors and security guards at a tire factory.
In 1983, Carrey dated singer Linda Ronstadt. In 1987, he married actress and Comedy Store waitress Melissa Womer and they had one daughter together. The couple divorced in 1995. He later married actress Lauren Holly in 1996 but got divorced in less than a year.
