History of the National Energy Conservation Day

Under the power ministry of India, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) also launched the National Energy Conservation Day along with the National Energy Conservation Awards in 1991 to recognize the contribution of industries and establishments in reducing energy consumption while maintaining their production. The first National Energy Conservation Day was thus observed on December 14, 1991, and the first National Energy Conservation Award was awarded on this occasion. The reason for observing this day was also to make people aware of global warming and climate change and promote efforts toward saving energy resources.

Observation of National Energy Conservation Day 2023

Every year on National Energy Conservation Day, the National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) are awarded to industries for their role in reducing energy consumption. Another National Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards (NEEIA) was introduced in 2021 to recognize outstanding work and innovative minds in the area of energy efficiency.

Professionals from the industries, building, and transport sectors, and students and research scholars all take part in the award ceremony.
