Dan Newlin was born on 1 March 1974 and raised in South Chicago. His father was a steelworker and his mother was a school teacher in the city of Gary, Indiana. At the age of 13, Newlin started working as a snow shoveler in the winter and as a golf Caddy in the summer. From a very young age, Dan wanted to work in public service and aspired to become a firefighter or police officer when he grew up.

Dan Newlin has been married to Sheena Murray and the couple has a daughter together, Alexis. While he was still a senior in high school, Dan Newlin enrolled in the Emergency Medical Technician School and became an Emergency Medical Technician for the New Chicago Fire Department at the age of 18 years. Once he turned 21, Newlin started working at the Florida Department of Corrections or Florida State Prison as a Correctional Officer/ Medic. After working for a year there,  Newlin was offered a position as an Orange County Deputy Sheriff which he gladly accepted. As a Sheriff, Newlin earned various awards and medals and was promoted to Fugitive Detective. As a Fugitive Detective, he started working with the United States Marshal’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) where he arrested some of the most notorious criminals of Florida as well as the United States. He also became the in-charge of transporting captured fugitives across the country.
