Ben Affleck was born on August 15, 1972, in Berkeley, California to Christopher Anne Boldt and Timothy Byers Affleck. His mother was a Harvard-educated elementary school teacher while his father was an aspiring playwright who was mostly unemployed and worked as a carpenter, electrician, bartender, auto mechanic, bookie, and janitor at Harvard. Casey Affleck, a well-known actor, is Ben’s younger brother.

Affleck started dating actress Jennifer Garner in 2004 and they got married in 2005. Together, they have three children. The couple announced their separation in 2015 and got divorced in 2018. Affleck then started dating actress Jennifer Lopez in 2021 whom he had dated previously in 2002. They had gotten engaged at the time but called it off in 2004. The couple again announced their second engagement in 2021 and got married in 2022.

Affleck started acting at a young age. His first appearance came in an independent film, “The Dark End of the Street” when he was just seven. As a child actor, Ben tasted success with children’s series “The Voyage of the Mimi” and “The Second Voyage of the Mimi”. Growing up, Affleck kept making appearances in movies, mostly landing small and uncredited roles. He got a lead acting role in “Glory Daze” but his career breakthrough came with the romantic comedy “Chasing Amy”. After the success of the movie, Affleck wrote and starred in another major hit “Good Will Hunting” which won him the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. At the age of 25, Affleck became and still remains the youngest writer to win an Oscar for screenwriting. 

In 1998, Ben appeared in the movie “Armageddon” where he starred with actor Bruce Willis and still managed to earn major recognition. His next film “Shakespeare in Love” went on to win not one, or two but seven Academy Awards. Affleck’s other hits include movies such as “Pearl Harbor”, “Daredevil”, “He’s Just Not That Into You”, “Gone Girl” and his “Batman” movies. Other than as an actor, Ben Affleck has also given several hit movies as a director, the most successful of which is “Argo”. The movie won multiple awards and Affleck himself won the Directors Guild of America Award, BAFTA Award for Best Director, and Golden Globe Award.

Philanthropy

Affleck is the co-founder of the nonprofit organization Eastern Congo Initiative which offers training and resources to cooperatives of Congolese farmers. He is a supporter of the A-T Children’s Project and has actively been involved in fundraising for them. As a member of Feeding America’s Entertainment Council Affleck has launched Feeding America’s Small Change Campaign. Ben is also involved with the Los Angeles-based homelessness charity Midnight Mission and has donated vastly to the charity.
