David Muir’s Personal Biography
David Muir was born on November 8, 1973, in Syracuse, New York, to Pat Mills and Ronald Muir. David’s parents divorced when David was a kid but they were both a part of his childhood growing up.
He has one older sister and two younger step-siblings. David attended Onondaga Central Junior-Senior High School and later enrolled in Ithaca College from where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism in 1995.
David was interested in journalism from a very young age. Prominent television journalist and an anchor of ABC World News Tonight, Peter Jennings was a major influence on Muir. Two years after Peter’s death, David filled in his position as the anchor of the same show.
In 2015, Muir was rumored to be dating ABC broadcast journalist Gio Benitez but there was no confirmation about the true nature of their relationship.

Professional Career in Journalism
Early Years, WTVH TV & WCVB TV
When he was only in high school, David Muir worked as an intern at the WTVH-TV with which he also started his first employment. He also enrolled at the Institute on Political Journalism at the Fund for American Studies at Georgetown University for one semester.
In the next semester, David attended the University of Salamanca in Spain with the Institute for the International Education of Students.
Muir started his professional career as an anchor and a reporter at WTVH-TV in 1994. His notable works include reports from Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Israel, and the Gaza Strip following the 1995 assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
For the latter, David earned top honors from the Radio-Television News Directors Association. The Associated Press honored him with Best Enterprise Reporting and Best Television Interview & the Syracuse Press Club called him the anchor of the Best Local Newscast.
Muir left WTVH in 2000 and joined WCVB television. He won the regional Edward R. Murrow Award for investigative reporting and the National Headliner Award and Associated Press honors for his work tracing the path of the hijackers involved in the 9/11 attacks.
Career with ABC News
Muir joined ABC News in 2003 as anchor of the overnight news program World News Now. He later became the anchor of the early morning newscast World News This Morning and the anchor of World News Saturday.
David has also served as the co-anchor of the newsmagazine Primetime occasionally. In 2012, Muir became an anchor for the weekend newscasts which was named World News with David Muir, and in 2013, he was promoted to co-anchor of the show 20/20.
