Jack Black’s Personal Biography

Jack Black was born on 28 August 1969, in Santa Monica, California, to Judith Love Cohen and Thomas William Black. His mother was a renowned scientist known for her work on the Minuteman nuclear missile guidance system, the Apollo lunar module guidance system, and the science ground station for the Hubble Space Telescope. His father is also a satellite engineer. His parents divorced when Black was 10 years old.

From 1996 to 2005, Black dated actress Laura Kightlinger. At the start of 2006, Black became engaged to singer Tanya Haden and they got married in March of the same year. The couple has two sons together.  Tanya is the daughter of renowned jazz bassist Charlie Haden.

Black got his first acting job in 1982 in a television commercial for the video game “Pitfall!”. He was only 13 years old at the time. As an adult, he started getting smaller roles on prime-time television including “Northern Exposure”, “Life Goes On”, “The X-Files”, “The Golden Palace”, etc. With time, Black began appearing in small roles in films like “Dead Man Walking”, “Airborne Waterworld”, “Enemy of the State”, “The Cable Guy”, and others. However, his breakthrough role came in the movie “High Fidelity” after which Jack started getting leading roles in films. His movie “School of Rock” became a major hit and earned Jack a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor – Musical or Comedy. Black garnered a second Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy for his role in the black comedy “Bernie”.

Black has voice acted in some of the popular movies and TV shows such as Kung Fu Panda, The Simpsons, Ice Age, Shark Tale, and others. Black has formed a rock band named Tenacious D along with his friend Kyle Gass. He is also the lead singer and guitarist for the band that has released four albums namely “Tenacious D”, “Rize of the Fenix”, “The Pick of Destiny”, and “Post-Apocalypto”. Their songs have even been featured in some video games and movies. The band has also provided backing vocals in albums of other bands. Black has made appearances in different music videos like “Sexx Laws”, “Learn to Fly”, “Low”, and others.

Black created a YouTube channel called Jablinski Games in 2018 that garnered over 1 million subscribers within a week of its launch.
