Professional Career of Justin Verlander
Detroit Tigers
Verlander got picked up by the Detroit Tigers with the second overall pick in the 2004 MLB Draft and signed a contract with them. He made his professional debut in 2005 and in 2006 became the first rookie pitcher in the history of the game to win 10 games before the end of season. Verlander was awarded with AL Rookie of the Year for this performance. His success continued in 2007 and he went on to accumulate 18 wins.
In the off-season, the Tigers reached a deal for 5-year $80 million contract extension with Verlander.
