Leonard Kravitz was born on May 26, 1964, in New York City, to Roxie Roker and Sy Kravitz. His father was an NBC television news producer while his mother was an actress. Kravitz is related to television weather presenter Al Roker through his mother. When he was just three years old, Lenny started playing kitchen pans as drums and decided to become a musician at the age of five.

Kravitz met actress Lisa Bonet in 1985 at a concert in California and they soon became close friends. They later entered into a relationship and got married in 1987. Together they have one daughter Zoë Isabella Kravitz who is also a well-renowned model, actress, and singer. The couple got divorced in 1993. Kravitz had been involved with singer and model Vanessa Paradis,  Brazilian model Adriana Lima, and Australian actress Nicole Kidman.

Musical career

In 1985 Kravitz decided to record his own album under the name Romeo Blue. He met recording engineer, keyboardist, and bassist Henry Hirsch and along with him began working on his debut album. Kravitz released his first album ‘Let Love Rule’ in 1989 which received mixed reviews. Although the album was a moderate success in the United States, it became an instant hit outside the country. Kravitz released his second album, Mama Said, in 1991 which reached the list of top 40 albums. The songs on the album were dedicated to his wife Lisa and represented his depression over their breakup.

Kravitz’s album Greatest Hits released in 2000 became his most successful album, reaching #2 on the Billboard 200 and selling nearly 11 million copies all over the world. Not only this, but the album also became one of the most commercially successful albums of the decade. Following the success of his albums, Kravitz began a live tour in 2005 which itself got immensely popular and extended through 2006. Lenny has released more than ten studio albums in his career and has recently hinted at a new upcoming album in the year 2024.

Other ventures

Kravitz’s most popular role is that of creative stylist, Cinna, in the first two Hunger Games movies. In 2015, Lenny became a furniture designer and launched a collection of furniture products.
