Lewis Capaldi was born on 7 October 1996 in Glasgow, Scotland to Carol Capaldi and Mark Capaldi. He has three more siblings and Lewis is the youngest of them. Capaldi became interested in singing started after his first performance on stage at the age of 4 years on a family trip to France. At the age of nine, Lewis learned how to play guitar and soon began writing songs too. He used to sneak out into pubs with the help of his eldest brother and played his gigs. Capaldi is a fan of association football and a supporter of the Glasgow-based Celtic F.C. Lewis if the second cousin (once removed) of the actor Peter Capaldi from his father’s side.

Initial Career
Capaldi’s professional career began in 2014 when he took part in a tour with fellow Scottish singers Jacob, Rory Green, and Zoë Bestel. The same year, Capaldi was discovered by manager Ryan Walter who heard his song recorded in his bedroom via an iPhone and uploaded on SoundCloud. Getting impressed by his voice, Walter soon contacted Capaldi and to hear him play live he even flew from America to Britain.
In 2017, Capaldi released his first independent single “Bruises” which became a major hit, getting 28 million plays on Spotify worldwide. With this song, Lewis became the fastest-ever unsigned artist to reach 25 million plays on the platform. The song was later re-released in 2019 as a single and reached a peak of number 6 on the UK Singles Chart. Soon after the release of the song, Capaldi was signed to the German branch of Universal Music Group.

Capaldi’s breakthrough came with the release of his hit single “Someone You Loved” which charted in 29 countries. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and also made it to number one on the UK Singles Chart and remained there for 7 weeks.
