History of National Burrito Day
The details of when National Burrito Day started are not known but here you can find little details about the history of burritos. Before the modern burrito was discovered, people of the Maya civilization of Mexico are believed to wrap foods with fillings of chili peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, squash, and avocados. This history is as old as 1500 BC and is considered to be the origin of burritos, although more closer to tacos. Again it is said that in 1985, the burrito was identified as a regional item from the Mexican state of Guanajuato which was defined as a rolled tortilla with meat or other ingredients inside.
According to another folk history, there was a man during the Mexican Revolution, Juan Méndez, who sold tacos in the streets of Bella Vista. To keep the food warm, he used to wrap it in large homemade flour tortillas and transported it on his donkey. People started calling it the “food of the burrito” which means food of the little donkey which was later shortened to just burritos. And this is how burritos became a popular food in Mexico. Burritos first appeared in America at a restaurant named El Cholo Spanish Cafe in Los Angeles during the 1930s.
