January 11 is observed as the the National Human Trafficking Awareness Day.

This special day has gained broad popular support since it was designated as a day of observance by the Senate in 2007.

Every ethnicity and background may be impacted by human trafficking, and now we must combat human trafficking wherever it takes place.

What is human trafficking?

To begin with, human trafficking may be simply explained as three main factors: what’s really performed, how it will be completed, and why it is completed.

The real goal of human trafficking is to exploit people in every way possible.

Abuse of deceit, authority, intimidation, and fears of or use of violence are all methods used to trade in people.

When people are recruited, harboured, transported, transferred, and received, trafficking has taken place.

History Behind Celebrating This Day

Human trafficking, according to Unitas, is the use of force, deception, or coercion to coerce another person into working, becoming a domestic servant, or engaging in commercial sexual activity.

Subjugating or abusing unwilling others is likewise an act of abuse. Some kind of slavery has existed for centuries, and today, many people remain oblivious of this truth.

Most people are aware of the slave trade that occurred between 1400 and the end of the 18th century.

Millions of Africans from throughout the continent were kidnapped and kept in bondage by Europeans, who then sold them as slaves or for sexual labour. Countries such as Spain, the U.S., Holland, Germany, Sweden, and Norway have been using this technique for centuries.

Great Britain led the way in outlawing the Transatlantic slave trade in 1807, and the United States started to follow suit in 1820.

Slavery was made illegal in most of the United States when the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, and when the Thirteenth Amendment was ratified in 1866, slavery in the United States was entirely abolished.

In the latter part of the twentieth century and into the early part of the twenty-first century, the campaign to fight human trafficking made strides.

The Trafficking Victims Protection Act (2000) was a legislation to comprehensively address modern-day slavery. Free The Slaves, an anti-slavery organisation in the U.S., was created as well. In 2007, the United States Senate established January 11th as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, recognising the prevalence of human trafficking in the country.

In 2010, President Obama launched a campaign in January called Trafficking: Month of Awareness and Prevention, which aimed to help raise awareness of and combat human trafficking.

There are now over 50 well-known groups that fight this unlawful activity worldwide, and the global community is now more aware of the problem than ever before.

Volunteering with an anti-trafficking charity is another way of contributing to an after-care facility To promote awareness about human trafficking, the colour blue was a prominent feature in the colour theme in 2021. This campaign operated only on social media, using a blue colour scheme. It promoted awareness among the people.
