It’s not just about eating pancakes on National Pancake Day—IHOP has partnered with a handful of organizations that aid children suffering severe illness, and any donations made on the day will go directly to the chosen charity.

As the year progresses, the date changes. It fell on March 7, 2017 in 2017 and on March 1st in 2022. In the year 2023, National pancake day was celebrated on February 21, 2023. Each year, IHOP earns millions of dollars for charity by requesting a gift from its customers.

Ancient Greeks and Romans used wheat flour, olive oil, honey, and curdled milk to make what they termed Alita Dolcia or “another sweet.” The Middle English word “pancake” first arose in English in the 15th century. Both Cratinus and Magnes wrote about them in their poetry in ancient Greece, while Shakespeare referred to them in several of his most popular works.

Shrove Tuesday has been observed in the United Kingdom since the year 1100. Fat Tuesday is another name for the day before Ash Wednesday. Confession, the completion of a lenten sacrifice, and the consumption of pancakes and other sweets are all traditional parts of this widely celebrated Feast Day.
