In 1990, the inaugural National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day was observed to mark the anniversary of the commercial release of peanut butter in the United States. 

The National Peanut Board and the Adult Peanut Butter Lovers Fan Club teamed up to promote the event, which resulted in full-page spreads featuring peanut butter in newspapers all around the country.
