Who are Given Priorities in KVS Admission?

Kendriya Vidyalaya is the most popular chain of schools in India. These schools are managed by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS). Admission to these schools is highly sought after due to their reputation for academic excellence. The admission process is designed to give priority to certain groups of students. Parents/ candidates applying for admission often ask about these KVS Admission priorities.

Children of central government employees are given top priority in Kendriya Vidyalaya admission. This includes children of army personnel, government officials, and public sector employees. However, there are some special provisions, reservation criteria and admission rules that give opportunities to other students as well.

Admission Rules For KV Transfer Candidates (Including Local Transfer)

  • If the parent has been relocated from one station to another, admission of children with KV TC (Transfer Certificate) will be automatic (over and above Class Strength). The efforts to open new sections will take place if there are more than 55 students in the class.
  • When relocated to certain difficult locations or deployed in Naxal-affected areas, members of the armed/ paramilitary forces may shift their families to a station of their choice and enrol their children in a Kendriya Vidyalaya situated at the station where they would keep their families.
  • In all other circumstances, where a transfer of parents is not applicable, the admission with KV TC will take place based on prior approval of the Deputy Commissioner of the region.
  • All cases of local transfers will take place based on merit after the approval of DC (Deputy Commissioner).
  • With the prior approval of the Chairman, VMC, a student with KV TC may also get admission in project KVs only up to class strength of 45. Beyond this, project schools would not accept students with KV TC. However, for extremely deserving candidates, the Deputy Commissioner of the Region has the power to grant admission to the project or nearest KV.

Admission Rules For Children Who Were Earlier Studying In Kendriya Vidyalayas

KVs has a special rule for those children who were previously studying in Kendriya Vidyalaya but were compelled to study in a school other than KV due to any of the following reasons.

  • Transfer of parent
  • Relocation due to exigency caused by the posting of parent to field area where no KV is available.

The rule is that such students can enrol in a Kendriya Vidyalaya again if their parents get transferred to a place where a Kendriya Vidyalaya is available.

Admission Norms of Wards of Armed & Para Military Forces

On the basis of the transfer certificate issued by the schools (following NCERT/ CBSE curriculum) managed by the Indian Coast Guard, Armed Forces, and Para Military Forces, automatic admission will be granted to the wards of employees working in these forces.

An automatic admission will only be provided in the following cases.

  • If the parent has been deployed in Naxal-affected areas and chooses to keep the family elsewhere.
  • In case the parent has been transferred to that location.
  • Parents have chosen to stay there after retirement.
