Rakshabandhan Festival Significance
There are a number of related stories when we talk about the origin of this festival. It is believed that when Lord Krishan got injured by a razor-sharp weapon, Draupadi (the wife of Pandavas) bandaged Govind’s finger using a section of her sari.
The Madhav heartily accepted the same as Raksha Sutra and blessed the Draupadi when she was dishonored by the Kauravas in front of her husband’s- Draupadi’s sari became continual when Dushasana tried undressing her.
This is how a brother protects her sister from evils and sets a foundation of Raksha Bandhan festival. From then, the festival is being celebrated every year.
Historical References of Rakhi Festival
Once upon a time, when Alexander got defeated by a Hindu King Purushottam of Punjab, the wife of Alexander tied a Rakhi on Purushottam’s hand for protecting her husband from being slain.
When Bahadur Shah was trying to invade Chittor’s kingdom, the Queen of Chittor- Rani Karnavati had sent a Rakhi to Emperor Humayun to get protection from Bahadur Shah. Inspite of being from other religion he came to help her.
Puja Vidhi
Please go through the puja vidhi of Raksha Bandhan carefully:
- Have a fresh bath before the start of this ceremony. Take blessing from kuldevi and Kuladevtas.
- You can use silver, brass or copper plate to hold Rakhi, Akshat, Roli or Sindoor.
- Place Rakhi plate in the place of worship and offer the same to your Kuladevtas.
- Your brother should face to the east side when you tie up rakhi on his wrist.
- Sisters should apply tilak to the forehead of his brother first.
- You should tie up the Raksha Sutra on the right hand of your brother by announcing the mantra.
- Brothers and sisters should share sweets after the ceremony.
- Brothers should promise to their sisters to be there, to always defend, no matter what the circumstances are.
