R’Bonney Gabriel won the title of Miss Universe 2022 at a ceremony held on January 15 in New Orleans, Louisiana. At the grand finale of the 71^st edition of Miss Universe, the 29-year-old was crowned the title by the previous Miss Universe, Harnaaz Sandhu.

She has previously won the title of Miss Texas USA 2022 and was the winner of Miss USA 2022 pageant, held in Nevada. After being crowned Miss Universe, Gabriel became the ninth entrant from the United States to win the title and is also the oldest winner at the age of 28 years.

R’Bonney Gabriel Early Life

R’Bonney Nola Gabriel was born on March 20, 1994, in Houston, Texas to Dana Walker and Remigio Bonzon Gabriel. Her father was born in Manila, Philippines and migrated to Washington state when he was 25. Gabriel’s mother is originally from Texas only and she has three older brothers.

Gabriel graduated from the University of North Texas and holds a bachelor’s degree in fashion design with a minor in fibers. She works as a designer, creating eco-friendly clothing and has even launched her own clothing line R’Bonney Nola. Other than this, she is also a model and now a Miss Universe titleholder.

Journey to Miss Universe 2022 pageant

Gabriel’s first entry into a beauty pageant came with her participation in Miss Kemah USA 2020 where she made it among the top five finalists. She then appeared in the Miss Texas USA 2021 competition as Miss Harris County and was able to make it as first runner-up. To this question, her reply was this- “Well, I would use it to be a transformational leader. As a very passionate designer, having been sewing for 13 years, I use fashion as a force for good. In my industry, I’m cutting down on pollution through recycled materials when I make my clothing. I teach sewing classes to women that have survived from human trafficking and domestic violence. And I say that because it is so important to invest in others, invest in our community, and use your unique talent to make a difference.
