Rishi Sunak was born on 12 May 1980 in Southampton to Yashvir, a general practitioner and Usha Sunak, a pharmacist who ran a local pharmacy. His parents were African Hindu of Indian descent with his father born and raised in the Colony and Protectorate of Kenya and his mother born in Tanganyika. Sunak has a younger brother Sanjay who is a psychologist and sister Raakhi who is the Chief of Strategy and Planning at the United Nations’ global fund for education, Education Cannot Wait. He completed his schooling from Hampshire and graduated from Lincoln College, Oxford. He also holds a postgraduate degree from Stanford University, California.
Sunak has been married to Akshata Murthy since August 2009 whom he met while studying at Stanford. They couple together have two daughters. Akshata is the daughter of the Indian billionaire N. R. Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys and owns a 0.91% stake in Infosys valued at about £746 million. Akshata is also one of the wealthiest women in Britain.

Early Life of Rishi Sunak
Rishi Sunak completed his initial schooling from Hampshire and went to Winchester College to continue his further studies. He graduated in 2001 from Lincoln College, Oxford where he studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE). Exploring his personal interest in politics, Rishi undertook an internship at Conservative Campaign Headquarters while he was still at university. Sunak also holds a postgraduate degree in business (MBA) earned from Stanford University with a Fulbright scholarship in 2006.
After his graduation, Rishi started working worked as an analyst for the investment bank Goldman Sachs from 2001 and 2004. During his post-graduation, he started working for Children’s Investment Fund Management, a hedge fund management firm and became a partner in September 2006. He joined another hedge fund firm, Theleme Partners in 2010. From 2013 to 2015, Sunak acted as the director of the investment firm Catamaran Ventures, owned by his father-in-law, Indian billionaire businessman N. R. Narayana Murthy.
In 2015, Rishi Sunak became a Member of Parliament for Richmond (Yorks) and has been since in the politics.
Political Career
In 2014, Sunak was selected as the Conservative candidate for Richmond (Yorks) and became a Member of Parliament in 2015. He was re-elected at the 2017 general election and started serving as parliamentary under-secretary of state for local government from 2018 to 2019.
Sunak was appointed as chief secretary to the Treasury by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on in late 2019 after he supported Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election. Considered to be a Johnson loyalist, Sunak ably represented the Prime Minister during the 2019 election debates. He was then promoted to chancellor as part of a cabinet reshuffle in 2020.
On 5 July 2022, Sunak resigned as chancellor following some controversy surrounding Chris Pincher MP. He announced later on July 8 that he would stand as a candidate in the Conservative party leadership election to replace Johnson as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
