Ronnie Dean Coleman was born on May 13th, 1964 in Monroe, Louisiana. He attended Grambling State University and graduated with a B.Sc. degree in accounting in 1984.

Career as a Bodybuilder
Coleman joined the Metroflex gym on a suggestion from his fellow police officer Gustavo Arolotta. Here, an amateur bodybuilder Brian Dobson trained him.
In 1990, he went on to become Mr. Texas in both heavyweight and overall categories. Surprisingly, he also defeated his trainer Dobson.
As a professional, Coleman won his first competition i.e. the Canada Pro Cup in 1995. Coleman gained recognition when he won the Mr. Olympia contest (the most prestigious worldwide) in 1998.
