Significance of Telangana Formation Day
Telangana became an independent state followed by years and decades of struggle and its formation signifies the victory of the Telangana movement. The first seed for the formation of Telangana as a separate state was sown first in 1955, around the same time as the state of Andhra was formed. More than 50 years after the movement began, the struggle of the activists came to an end on June 2, 2014, and the Government of India finally decided to give the state of Telangana a new identity. Thus, Telangana Formation Day came into existence which commemorates the official separation of Telangana from the state of Andhra Pradesh and also celebrates the new identity of the state and its people.
Telangana Formation Day History
The Congress Working Committee unanimously passed a resolution recommending the formation of Telangana as a separate state on 1 July 2013. The bill was passed through various stages and finally, it reached the Parliament of India in February 2014. The bill, known as Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014, asked for the formation of Telangana state that would comprise of ten districts from north-western Andhra Pradesh. On 1 March 2014, the bill received the assent of the President and got published in the gazette. Following the adoption of the bill, the state of Telangana was officially formed on 2 June 2014 with Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Raoas the first chief minister of the state.

Celebration of Telangana Formation Day
Every year, Telangana Day is celebrated with government-organized events such as parades, political speeches and ceremonies held in the honor of the culture and history of Telangana State. Many other public and private events celebrating the traditions of Telangana are also organized across all districts of the state. There is a formal event of national flag hoisting by the Chief Minister of Telangana and Telangana State Awards for exemplary contribution in different fields is also presented. Other events such as food festivals, cultural activities, kavi sammelans, etc are organized at district levels. Celebration of Telangana Formation Day is also carried out in schools and educational institutions where children are taught about the grand history, culture and Telangana movement. To mark the day, the state is bathed with a pink glow on all prominent buildings, monuments, and architectural splendors.
