Vishwakarma Puja 2023 Date
According to the Hindu calendar, Vishwakarma Puja is observed every year on the last day of Bhadrapada month. In the Gregorian calendar, this usually falls in the month of September. In the year 2023, Vishwakarma Puja will be celebrated on Monday, September 18.
Since the festival falls on the last day of Bhadra, it is also known as Bhadra Sankranti. During this time, the sun leaves the Simha rashi (Leo) and enters Kanya rashi (Virgo) and the day is also known as Kanya Sankranti Diwas. Vishwakarma Puja is also celebrated a day after Diwali, along with Govardhan Puja in October–November.

Who is Lord Vishwakarma?
Lord Vishwakarma is considered as the Architect and the Divine Engineer of the Universe and is credited with the creation of the world alongside Lord Brahma. He also constructed the holy city of Dwarka where Krishna ruled and the Maya Sabha of the Pandavas. Vishwakarma also crafted all of the chariots and weapons of the gods including Indra’s Vajra. Other than this, he also built the city of Lanka (where King Ravana lived) and Indraprastha (where Pandavas lived) In some texts, he is often stated to be the son of Brahma, whereas in others, he is called as the son of Vastu.
Since Vishwakarma is the creator of the world, it is believed by many that he existed before everything and he do not have any birthday. They celebrate his commemoration day on Rishi Panchami Dinam on which his five children (five rishis) came together to pray to illustrious father. The date of Rishi Panchami Dinam is not fixed and varies every year.
Vishwakarma Puja Rituals & Celebration
The festival of Vishwakarma Puja is observed with great excitement in factories and industries. Engineers, architects, artisans, craftsmen, mechanics, industrial workers, factory workers and others celebrate Vishwakarma Puja to seek blessings of Lord Vishwakarma for good working conditions of their machines and success in their fields. Prayers are offered to tools and machines as well since they are considered as the creation of Lord Vishwakarma. No professional work is done by the workers on their tools and machines on the day of Vishwakarma Puja. People of northern and eastern India, especially from the states of Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Tripura, etc celebrate this festival with traditions and rituals. Apart from factories, Vishwakarma Puja is also celebrated in homes and offices where people worship their vehicles, gadgets, etc.
Normally, factories and industries remain close on the day of Vishwakarma Puja and opens only to offer prayers to the lord and the machines. People abstain from consuming meat and liquor on the day of Vishwakarma Puja. To increase their business, people also donate alms to the poor and needy people.
Vishwakarma Puja Vidhi
On the day of Vishwakarma Puja, get up early in the morning, take a bath and wear clean clothes. Thoroughly clean the place of worship and purify it by sprinkling Ganga water. Take a yellow cloth and make swastik with red kumkum on this cloth. Rice and flower are offered on the Swastika mark and statue, photo or idol of Lord Vishwakarma is placed on it. First, prayers are offered to Lord Ganesha and then to Lord Vishwakarma. (Ganesha is always worshiped first every time prayers are offered to any Hindu deity). Light a lamp and put tilak on the forehead of Lord Vishwakarma. Prayers, fruits, sweets, flowers, etc are then offered to him. Recite mantras for long life of your machines and success in your business. Once the prayer is done, seek blessings from Lord Vishwakarma and distribute fruits and sweets among the workers, employees and family members.
