Religious holidays in West Bengal especially Saraswati Puja, Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Laxmi Puja are celebrated with great enthusiasm. Other than them, there are around 20 public holidays that are observed in the state of West Bengal. Public offices, private offices, banks and schools remain closed on most of these holidays. All the banks remain close on the above-listed Government holidays. Apart from the these, banks also remain close on all Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays. Earlier, banks used to operate for half day on every Saturday but later it was changed to second and fourth Saturdays offs and rest Saturdays on.
