History of World Day of Social Justice

The World Day of Social Justice is a worldwide commemoration that has been in place from 2009. It is not an official holiday.

In 1995, more than one hundred worldwide politicians gathered in Denmark, Sweden, for a World Summit on Social Development to address poverty and high employment, as well as to aim for secure and predictable communities.

They came to an agreement to issue a statement known as the Declaration of Copenhagen and Programme of Action for Global Development. Eventually, on November 26, 2007, the United Nations designated February 20th as the annual World Day of Social Justice.

In the age of globalization and the free market economy, the 2008 Declaration informs the current perspective of the ILO’s mission. Nonetheless, the World Summit leaders noted that human progress included social equality, cooperation, peace, and fairness between and within states.

Although every country considers gender equality, justice, and parity to be basic principles, authorities must develop strong structures to attain “society for all” levels, ensuring that social justice is supported at the national, local, regional, and global levels. Establishing fair chance for job applicants, enabling for equal distribution of income, and providing better access to opportunities via equal opportunity had become the world leaders’ rallying cry.

Purpose of World Day of Social Justice

The day’s aim is to speak out against racial injustice and promote worldwide social justice. The day’s objective is to bring people from all walks of life closely together so that unemployment, bodily and gender prejudice, bigotry, religion prejudice, illiteracy, and prejudices can be eliminated.
