Significance of World Patient Safety Day
There is no doubt to the fact that the quality and quantity of healthcare services being received have both enhanced. But due to the complexity of the modern healthcare system, the patient harm has also increased multifold. The adverse condition that most patients live in is one of the leading causes of global illness and death. Condition is worse in developing and underdeveloped countries with very little income people and insufficient medical facilities. According to a report, annually 134 million patients are subjected to adverse hospitalization conditions which in turn results in around 2.6 million deaths. Patient suffering can also be seen in high-income or developed countries but with a better scenario.
Under such conditions, the need to celebrate a day dedicated to the safety of the patients is considered important. The World Patient Safety Day will be observed with the aim to draw worldwide attention to the safety of the patients and on measures to protect them from getting harmed.
