World Rose Day Significance

Cancer destroys the tissues in the body and causes a lot of physical pain and stress but more than that it also destroys a person mentally and psychologically. Showing simple acts of kindness to individuals suffering from cancer and their families can have a significant impact on their mental well-being. World Rose Day aims to bring hope and happiness in the lives of cancer patients by letting them know that we stand in their support and they are not alone in this battle. The day raises awareness about the disease and also helps raise funds for the welfare of cancer patients and their families.

History of World Rose Day

World Rose Day was established in honor of a 12-year-old cancer patient from Canada, Melinda Rose. In 1994, Melinda was diagnosed with Askin’s Tumour, a rare form of blood cancer tumor that arises from the soft tissues of the chest wall. After the diagnosis, the doctors gave her a few weeks’ time to live. However with her courage and willpower, Rose fought the disease for three years before it finally claimed her life.

Melinda Rose & Her Fierce Battle with Cancer

Melinda Rose was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer named Askin’s Tumor on February 14, 1994, when she was only 12 years old. She was an ambitious ballet dancer and the diagnosis of cancer came as a shock to her and her family. Rose was given a maximum of two weeks by the doctors to live. However, rather than her courage breaking down, Melinda rose with the hope of living her life to the fullest for as long as she could.

Melinda began spending her time counseling other cancer patients and started writing to cancer patients across the world to instill a feeling of hope in their hearts. To reach as many people as possible, she even created a website where she posted words of encouragement to those fighting an intense battle with the disease. Her words became a source of hope for many and gave the patients a strong willpower to fight cancer. After filling people with hope and inspiration for three years, Melinda took her last breath on September 16 morning in 1996.
