History of World Typing Day Observation

The idea of Typing Day was originally planned by the Team TAC (Typo Auto Corrector) in Malaysia. The team comprised of Jay Chong Yen Jye, Nicholas Koay Zhen Lin and Edwin Khong Wai Howe who were the winner of the MSC Malaysia-IHL Business Plan Competition (MIBPC) 2010/2011’s Business Plan Category.

To encourage people, especially the younger generation to type and learn proper English, Team TAC decided the celebration of World Typing Day. The team also developed SecondKey, a computer program to automatically correct wrong English spellings in virtually any online and offline type-writing interface.

January 8 was selected as the day of observation as it falls one week after the new years that gives everyone appropriate time to think and plan their resolutions and write them down. The first World Typing Day was celebrated on 8th January 2011 and has been observed everyday since.
