World Veterinary Day History
The first International Veterinary Convention was convened in Hamburg in 1863 under the direction of Edinburgh Veterinary Institute professor John Gandhi. Among the topics discussed during the conference were animal outbreaks and the steps taken to avoid them, as well as standard operating procedures for the European cattle market. The World Veterinary Conference has replaced the American Veterinary Medical Association’s annual meeting as the official title of this event.
To tie the conferences together, a “Standing Committee” was formed during the 8th World Veterinary Convention. The Working Group and its participants met the criteria of an international organization and the Constitution during the 15th Congress in Stockholm.
As a consequence, in 1959, at the following meeting in Madrid, the World Veterinary Association was officially established for the first time. In 2001, the World Veterinary Association conceived the idea of World Veterinary Day. National veterinary organizations from across the globe are partners of the WVA, which presently has participants from over 70 nations.
World Veterinary Day Objectives
Animal health and well-being are promoted by commemorating this day. We learned today that wildlife and people are linked, and that their continued survival is dependent on one another.
Every two years, the Globe Veterinary Association has a congress somewhere in the world. Most of this group’s efforts go toward mitigating climate change, making smart usage environmental assets, and ensuring appropriate medication clearance. Some of the goals are as follows:
- Motivate numerous young people to participate in veterinarian science courses by popularizing the veterinary industry.
- Improving the living circumstances of animals, particularly those who are not housed and are left to their own in public places.
- Transferring animals safely and responsibly means following good food practices, safety procedures, and other safety measures.
- Encouraging people to learn more about animal-borne illnesses like rabies and the need of routinely immunizing their pets
- The goal of the day is to recognize and support vets around the world for their excellent work.
- It’s an informal holiday for pet parents to enjoy with their animals, pamper them, and have fun with them.

World Veterinary Day 2024 Quotes
- “Make your life your art. It doesn’t have to be that you’re an artist. I know I talk about art a lot, but I mean a very broad thing with that. You could be a veterinarian, that’s your art. Find your art; find your thing you love.” (Gerard Way)
- “First I wanted to be a veterinarian. And then I realized you had to give them shots to put them to sleep, so I decided I’d just buy a bunch of animals and have them in my house instead.” (Paris Hilton)
- Being veterinarians, we’re not supposed to be afraid of any animals. And I’m afraid of spiders. They creep me out the way they move. They got hair and saliva. That’s wrong. A bug shouldn’t have hair on it.” (Kevin Fitzgerald)
- “I wanted to be a veterinarian. I adored animals, raised everything in the world and decided that was going to be what I was going to do. But I could sing.” (Shirley Jones)
