According to the story, once there was a King named Kuber living in the city named Alkapuri of Swargdham. He was a true devotee of Lord Shiva. There was a gardener namedHema. Hema was used to deliver fresh flowers so that Kuber can worship the Lord.

One day, when Hema was collecting flowers from the garden he got attracted to his wife named Vishalakshmi. He completely forgot that he has to deliver flowers to the king. On the other hand, the King got very angry and send his soldiers to bring Hema to the court. He scolded Hema and curse him that he will never get love of any lady. Apart from this, he also cursed that Hema will go down to the earth.

This way, Hema fall to the earth and got a skin disease. His wife Vijaylaxmi also left him. Poor Hema keeps wandering around the forest hungry and thirsty. One day he reached the ashram of Sage Markande. He immediately fell to the feet of the Sage. The Sage console him and ask what he can do for him. Hema then told him his complete story. The Sage understand his problem and told him that he should observe fast on Yogini Ekadashi. Hema does exactly that and keep fast on Yogini Ekadashi. By this way, Hema got rid of all his sins. Since then, Yogini Ekadashi is celebrated as a Sacred Day.

  • Then, you should take a bath and pran of the fast.
  • Next, you must clean the temple of the house.
  • After that, you should clean the Idol of Lord Vishnu.
  • At the time of worshipping, you should offer Tulsi leaves to Lord Vishnu.
  • In the evening, you should light a Diya in front of the Lord Vishnu idol.
  • Next day, on Dwedashi you must finish the fast as per the shubhmuhurat.
  • It is also important for you to offer food to Lord Vishnu. You must also add sweet in the food offering.
