UP Board Class 11 Civics Syllabus 2024-25

UP Board has released Civics syllabus for candidates studying in class 11. Students must note that they need not prepare for the topics removed from the syllabus. It is very important for aspiring candidates to thoroughly understand the syllabus before starting the final exam preparation. UP Board Class 11 Civics Syllabus 2024-25

Given below are the topics that are still in the Class 11th UP Board Civics Syllabus. You should note that only the following topics must be studied by the students as the rest of the topics are removed.

Part A : Indian Constitution at work (50 marks)

Unit – I (12 marks)

  • Constitution Why and how and Philosophy of the Constitution: Constitution: Why and how, The making of the Constitution, the Constituent Assembly, Procedural achievements and Philosophy of the Constitution.
  • Rights and Duties in the Indian Constitution: The importance of Rights, Fundamental Rights in the Constitution, Directive principles of State Policy. Relationship between fundamental Rights and Directive principles.

Unit – II (8 marks)

  • Executive: What is an Executive? Different types of Executive. Parliamentary Executive in India- Prime minister and council of Ministers. Permanent Executive: Bureaucracy.

Unit – III (10 marks)

  • Legislature: Why do we need a Parliament? Two Houses of Parliament. Functions and Power of the Parliament, Legislative functions, Control over Executive. Parliamentary committees. Self-regulation.
  • Judiciary: Why do we need an Independent Judiciary? Structure of the Judiciary, Judicial – Activism. Judiciary and Rights, Judiciary and Parliament.

Unit – IV (10 marks)

  • Federalism: What is Federalism? Federalism in the Indian Constitution, Federalism with a strong Central Government, Conflicts in India’s Federal system, special provisions.

Unit – V (10 marks)

  • Constitution as a living Document – Are Constitutions static? The Procedure to amend the Constitution, Why have there been so many amendments? Basic structure and evolution of the Constitution. Constitution as living Document.
  • Political Philosophy of Constitution: Constitution: A tool for Democratic change. What is the Political Philosophy of our Constitution?

Part B: Political Theory

Unit – VI (10 marks)

  • Freedom – The ideal of Freedom. What is Freedom? Why do we need Constraints? ‘Harm Principle’ Negative and Positive Liberty.

Unit – VII (10 marks)

  • Equality: Significance of Equality. What is Equality? Various dimensions of Equality. How can we promote Equality?
  • Social Justice: What is Justice? Just Distribution. Justice as fairness. Pursuing Social Justice.

Unit – VIII (10 marks)

  • Rights: What are Rights? Where do Rights come from? Legal Rights and the State. Kinds of Rights. Rights and responsibilities.
  • Citizenship: What is citizenship? Citizen and Nation, Universal Citizenship, Global Citizenship.

Unit – IX (10 marks)

  • Nationalism: Nations and Nationalism. National Self-determination, Nationalism and Pluralism
  • Secularism: What is Secularism? What is Secular State? The Western and the Indian approaches to secularism. Criticisms and rationale of Indian Secularism.

Unit – X (10 marks)

  • Peace: What is Peace? Can violence ever promote peace? Peace and the State. Different approaches to the pursuit of peace. Contemporary challenges to peace.
  • Development – What is Development? Dominant, Development model and alternative conceptions of development.

UP board class 11th Civics Syllabus – Removed Topics

Here are the topics that the removed from the UP Board Class 11th Civics Syllabus for the academic session 2024-25. Please note that questions in the final examination will not be asked from the given topics.
